Barnsley thrived on the valuable skills of artists during the industrial revolution, the locals of Barnsley were not all destined for collieries or mills. Some became very talented wood block carvers, fabric printers, and artistic designers being trained in Fairfield House Art School for the textile industry - art IS in Barnsley blood.
I saw a niche in the gallery market, that many talented artists were not being able to display their art in any other format than digitally/online.
The ethos of Art 'N' Abart is one of helping emerging artists, encouraging children and the less confident to be creative also. Engaging with community groups and the well established Barnsley Cooper & Civic Galleries providing a hub by hosting information of forthcoming activities to a wide audience of society that pass through Alhambra Shopping Centre where Art 'N' Abart is located on the upper floor.
Not only a tangible gallery and platform to sell online, pay a visit and escape the bustle of busy shopping streets, a place to sit and have a chat, meet friends and maybe commission art of significant emotional connection for their own home.
All this takes funds and commitment from myself, I sell my own work to create these funds as Art 'N' Abart is NOT a not-for-profit or charity I am unfunded, an independant gallery.

I have created this gallery so that emerging artists may have an affordable platform to show and exhibit their work. It is a niche in the market as established galleries cost too much for new artists and occasionally the artist has insufficient work to have a solo exhibition. I have been given this opportunity by Axisweb and Alhambra Shopping Centre. I wish to encourage community engagement and participation by hosting community/school and other local organizations artworks for a reasonable fee.
